Adv. Govind Bali Appointed Delhi President of First Generation Lawyers Association

The appointment places the Delhi-based advocate in a leadership role focused on mentorship, representation and institutional support for first-generation members of the Bar.

New Delhi, 20 August 2026: Advocate Govind Bali has been appointed President–Delhi of the First Generation Lawyers Association (FGLA), pursuant to the Association’s public circular dated 6 July 2026.

The appointment was made unanimously by the General Body of FGLA and forms part of the Association’s expansion of its state and court-level organisational structure. FGLA works to address the professional difficulties faced by advocates who enter legal practice without established family networks, inherited chambers or institutional support within the profession.

In his public statement following the appointment, Adv. Bali said that his work as Delhi President would focus on developing a more accessible and supportive platform for first-generation advocates, particularly young lawyers requiring mentorship, professional guidance, representation and assistance during their formative years at the Bar.

Focus on first-generation lawyers in Delhi

First-generation advocates commonly encounter structural disadvantages while establishing themselves in litigation. These may include limited access to chambers, insufficient professional mentorship, financial uncertainty during the initial years of practice and difficulty navigating court procedure, filing practice and professional institutions.

The Delhi chapter is expected to work towards building stronger professional networks and structured support systems for such lawyers. Its proposed areas of engagement include mentorship, continuing legal education, professional representation, court-level coordination and opportunities for young advocates to interact with experienced members of the Bar.

FGLA’s stated motto—“United by Hardship, Unshaken by Fear”—reflects its objective of creating solidarity among lawyers who have entered the profession without inherited advantages.

Proposed institutional role

The Delhi President’s role is expected to include coordination between FGLA’s state and court-level office bearers, development of mentorship initiatives and representation of professional concerns raised by first-generation advocates.

A sustained institutional programme may also assist young lawyers in understanding courtroom practice, professional ethics, procedural requirements, client management and the practical challenges of establishing an independent legal practice.
